Guided visit with entry · Av. de Gaudí 1, by the basilica

Guided tour with entry

This is the most-reviewed guided visit of the Sagrada Familia: an official guide meets you on Avinguda de Gaudí and takes you through both facades, the nave, the Schools and the museum in about 1 hour 30 minutes, with the entry included. It is the simplest way in at short notice when the official slots are gone, because it is sold separately from the single tickets.

About this experience

The meeting point is on Avinguda de Gaudí, the street that runs diagonally away from the basilica. Look for a guide with a red flag and be there at least 15 minutes before your start time. The guide gives a short introduction outside, then takes the group through security, which the listing warns can take up to 25 minutes in high season.

The visit follows the building's story. You start at the Nativity facade, the first part to be finished and the one Gaudí saw rise, then step into the nave, where the columns branch like trees and the stained glass throws colour across the stone. On the way out you hear about the Passion facade, with its stark, angular sculpture, built after Gaudí's death. The last two stops are the Sagrada Familia Schools, the small building made for the workers' children, and the museum, with original sketches, plans and the upside-down models Gaudí used to work out his arches. Groups of more than 10 get a personal audio headset.

Two things are not in the price: a tower and hotel pickup. If you want the view from the top, the guided tour with Passion tower access adds it. The start times are strict, and the listing treats a late arrival as a no-show with no refund, so plan the Metro ride with time to spare. Guests rate it 4.8 from 15,325 reviews, and free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before.

Our guide won over the entire group. There were eight of us friends, and we unanimously loved the way he shared his passion for the Sagrada Familia with us. [...] In addition, his little touches of humor are a major asset.

Tips before you book

  • Bring a passport or ID card, as the listing asks. The basilica's FAQ says tickets are personal and carry the visitor's name, and an original photo ID that matches the ticket must be shown at the entrance.
  • Leave 15 minutes of slack. Sagrada Familia Metro station (lines L2 and L5) is a few minutes' walk from Avinguda de Gaudí, and the tour starts on the dot.
  • Dress for a church. The basilica's rules ask for trousers and skirts at least to mid-thigh, no see-through clothing, no swimwear and no hats in the nave or the museum. Jeans are fine.
  • Leave the big bag at the hotel. Every bag goes through security, and the basilica has no storage for suitcases.
  • Read our guide to choosing a guided tour or the audio guide if you are still deciding.
