Booking choice: The guided tour with tower access, from $122 per person. Check dates Tour details
A tower visit is the one part of the Sagrada Familia that most tickets leave out, and the part that sells out first. The basilica's own towers page names two that you can visit: one on the Nativity facade, one on the Passion facade. Each ticket includes one of them, chosen when you book.
This guide compares the two sides, explains how the visit works and who cannot go, and lists the tickets that include a tower. The new Tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest of them all, is not one of them.
The quick answer
Pick the Nativity tower for views east over the city towards the sea and the oldest stonework of the building; pick the Passion tower for views over the city centre. Both go up by lift and down on foot, both close in bad weather, and neither is open to children under 6. The guided tour with tower access includes the Passion tower (from $122), and the entry ticket lets you add either one (from $38).
Which tower of the Sagrada Familia is better to visit?
Neither is better for everyone. Choose the Nativity tower for the eastern views towards the sea and the oldest facade; choose the Passion tower for the city centre view.
The official towers page gives the difference in one line each: the Nativity tower has views of the eastern side of Barcelona, the Passion tower views of the city centre. The Nativity facade was the first part of the basilica to be finished, and the one Gaudí worked on himself; it joined the UNESCO World Heritage listing of his works in 2005. The Passion facade, on the west side, was built after his death, with its stark, angular sculpture of the crucifixion story.
A practical tip: pick the side that has a slot. Both towers give you the same lift up, the same walk down and the same closeness to the spires. If you are booking late, the tower that is still available is the right one.
| Nativity tower | Passion tower | |
|---|---|---|
| Facade | East side, Carrer de la Marina | West side, Carrer de Sardenya |
| View | Eastern Barcelona, towards the sea | The city centre |
| Stonework | Gaudí's own facade, carved with the birth of Christ | Later, angular sculpture of the Passion |
| Way up and down | Lift up, walk down | Lift up, walk down |

How does the Sagrada Familia tower visit work?
You leave your bag in a locker, take the lift to the top, look out from the tower, and walk back down a spiral stair. The official tower visit takes about 1 hour 30 minutes in all.
The basilica's rule is plain: visitors take the lifts up to the top of the towers and walk down. The guided tour with tower access listing gives 400 steps for the way down from its Passion tower, so wear comfortable shoes. All rucksacks and bags have to go into the lockers before you go up; this is the only time the basilica stores bags, and you pick them up on the way out.
One tower per ticket, and your tower time is fixed when you book. Leave enough of the day after it to see the nave and the museum, because the basilica is cleared 15 minutes before closing.
A guided visit, then the lift up the Passion tower and the walk down: rated 4.6, free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Children under 6, and visitors with reduced mobility. Children from 6 to 16 must be with an adult, and the towers are not advised for pregnant women or people with vertigo, claustrophobia or heart problems.
These are the basilica's own rules, and the tour listings repeat them. The tower tour lists children under 6, pregnant women, people with mobility impairments and people with vertigo as not suitable. The stairs down are narrow and long, and there is no lift back.
If someone in your group cannot go up, the rest of the basilica is accessible, with entrance B on Carrer de la Marina for visitors with reduced mobility. Plan the tower for those who want it on a separate entry ticket and meet back in the nave.
What happens if the towers are closed by weather?
They close in strong wind or rain. On the official tower ticket there is no refund of the ticket price; on the tower tour you get €10 back per person and the guided visit goes ahead.
Barcelona's weather is kind most of the year, but autumn storms and windy days do close the towers. The tower tour listing says the towers may close unexpectedly for strong winds, rain or lift maintenance, in which case the tour departs as planned with €10 per person back as compensation. One guest got lucky with the drizzle: "It was a bit drizzly, but we managed to climb the tower, and I was very satisfied" (Keiichi, Oct 2026).
Book your tower on an early day of your trip. If the forecast turns, you can cancel free up to 24 hours before and move it.

The one ticket here with a tower built in: about 1 hour 30 minutes with a guide, then the Passion tower. €10 back per person if the towers close, free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

The tower tour includes the Passion tower. The entry ticket and the small-group tour offer a tower as an option when you book. The other guided visits and combos do not include one.
Read the option name carefully when you book. A guided visit that says nothing about towers does not include one, and you cannot add a tower at the door.

Check dates for the small-group tourCan you go up the Tower of Jesus Christ?
No. The Tower of Jesus Christ is not part of the tower visit. The official page names only the Nativity and Passion towers.
The central Tower of Jesus Christ is the tallest tower of the basilica at 172.5 m. Its final piece was placed on 20 February 2026, and Pope Leo XIV blessed and inaugurated it on 10 June 2026, the hundredth anniversary of Gaudí's death. You see it from every side of the building and from far across the city, with its cross at the top. A visit inside it is not on sale.
For the full story of the tower and what you can see of it now, read our Tower of Jesus Christ post.

Is the Sagrada Familia tower worth it?
Yes, if you like heights and views, and do not mind the stairs. It is the closest you get to the spires, and it adds only about 30 minutes to a guided visit.
Guests on the tower tour liked it even when they were nervous. "It was really nice to go up in the towers. Worth the experience, even with a fear of heights, haha!" (Silje, Sep 2026). Another called the "tower climb" great and the tour her favourite of Barcelona (Manon, Jul 2026).
Timing is the only catch. A guest who took an afternoon tour with the tower wrote: "If you want to stay more time inside, I suggest to book the tour earlier" (Ana, Aug 2026). With a tower, go in the morning or early afternoon so you still have time in the nave and the museum before closing. Our best time guide has the hours.
